Equipping Persecuted Christians Behind the Bamboo Curtain

        One Month Post Cyclone Review

During the past month over 1,000 cyclone hit families were able to receive emergency relief from our Burmese and other Southeast Asian friends/co-workers – all possible through prayers, donations and a network of local churches in Burma. Selected families received help to repair their houses. In addition, we provided medicines and supplies to more than 2,000 victims. Medical training on treating water borne diseases and methods for water purification were also conducted for a total of 42 doctors, nurses and health workers/assistants. They were also taught how to help grieving persons deal with personal loss.

Doing Good First to the Household of Faith – On May 31 Burma’s military government announced that the "reconstruction" phase has begun. Refugee camps were forciblydismantled and people were sent back to their demolished villages with no aid from the authorities for rebuilding.

Consistent with our ethos, we will concentrate on assisting and equipping local churches so that they can lead the recovery and rebuilding process in their communities.

In Burmese Christian context, the church is a symbol of protection and stability. In this time of difficulty and bewilderment, we seek to give the survivors a sense of belonging and security through the ministry of the church.

We will focus our strategic and longer term efforts on building up the churches in 16 villages. Each church will head the clean up process and will become the centre for their community where schools, sports/recreation and training can be conducted and food, water and medical supplies will be provided.

And Beyond – The aforementioned approach is a loving, tangible and relatively safe way to continue reaching out to those who have yet to follow Jesus. We will also continue to
provide relief packages through our Burmese co-workers to 1,200 families from 25 villages.

We earnestly invite you and your church to consider adopting the following projects.

                                               FAMILY PACK

                                                  US$ 50 each

Each pack includes:

Total: $ 50 x 1200 families = US$ 60,000

VILLAGE NEEDS MET THROUGH THE CHURCH

                                            US$ 4,625 each

Each village will have:                                                            US$

Total: $ 4,625 x 16 villages = US$ 74,000

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it… If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”

(1 Corinthians 12:26-27)

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially (Strong’s: chiefly, most of all, specially, especially) to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10)

"For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack––that there may be equality."   (2 Corinthians 8:13-14)
