UPDATE ON MYANMAR CYCLONE VICTIMS
The latest death toll estimate from Cyclone Nargis has exceeded 120,000.

Twenty pastors that our pastor/friends knew died in the storm. Only two bodies have been recovered so far. Our Southeast Asian ministry partners interviewed two of our ministry co-workers serving Myanmar last night. Here is a brief account of what they shared:
The number of homeless in our estimate can reach 5 million not 1 million as the news says. Many people are staying in the churches, temples, monasteries and schools. They are all crowded. Those in charge cannot feed them all. Even the monks have to find food….
The people’s concern now is to move to a safer place, away from the foul-smelling dead bodies and get some food. There is no food and drinking water. The district officers do not come to clean the area of the dead bodies.
PLEASE PRAY:
- For divine protection for our Asian ministry partners on their travels, logistical arrangements, distribution of supplies.
- That these basic supplies reach those who need them most.
- That God’s Word makes its way safely across borders.
- For those who have lost loved ones – that they will receive comfort and strength from Jesus during this time of grief.
- That God will supply local churches in Myanmar with all their needs and use them as instruments of hope in the midst of hopelessness. Pray especially that the ministry will carry on for the twenty churches who have lost their pastors. Pray for new leaders to clearly hear the call of God.
- That God will give believers courage and peace for innumerable opportunities to show compassion to those around them during this difficult time.
- People will know their help comes from Jesus, the Maker of heaven and earth. Pray that their hearts will be open to the Gospel as He is the giver of life.
